The deceased, attached to Igbologun Police Station, Snake Island, Lagos State, was said to have been killed by her husband during a quarrel over his alleged lover, Egnes. The incident occurred on November 20, about 10p.m., at Number 10, Sholake Street, Iju-Ishaga area of the metropolis. Before Mariam got married to Uche, she already had three children. She married Uche three years ago who also came into the marriage with a daughter. Trouble was said to have started when Egnes visiting Uche whenever Mariam goes to office. Mariam wouldn’t have known of the alleged clandestine visits, but for some neighbours. One of Mariam’s brothers, Mr. Kelvin Ndu, said that he and other family members learnt about Mariam’s death the following day. The African Union mission in Washington DC expressed its "shock, dismay and outrage" and said the Trump administration misunderstood Africans. The US leader made the alleged remark in a Thursday meeting on immigration. But Mr Trump has denied using the language reported. He has been backed by two Republicans who were at the White House meeting, but Democratic Senator Dick Durbin said Mr Trump called African countries "shitholes" several times and used "racist" language. He also explained how they prepared for the massacre in Omoku, Rivers State, in which the gang killed 22 residents returning from church. Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, University of Calabar, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu advised the Federal Government to stop establishing more universities and enhance the standard of existing ones. Mr. Iwuanyanwu gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Atta Ikeduru, Imo, on Tuesday. He said that instead of frequent approval of new universities, the government should concentrate on improving standards in the existing ones to produce quality graduates. Mr. Iwuanyanwu said the standard of education in Nigerian universities had dropped when compared with what obtained more than 40 years ago. He expressed support for the restructuring of the country with a view to tackling corruption, repositioning the local government administration and power sector. NAN

Olusola was reportedly apprehended on Friday, December 22, 2017, at the Sapade Motor Park by some commuters who were uncomfortable with an offensive odour coming from a polythene bag which the suspect carried. Olusola, who was said to have boarded a vehicle heading for Lagos, became a guest of the police after the commuters alerted policemen from the Isara division, who found the baby’s corpse in the bag. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said when the 42-year-old was queried on how he came by the corpse, he claimed that he was taking it to Lagos for burial. Oyeyemi noted that the suspect did not provide any convincing explanation to the cops. He said, “The suspect was arrested at Sapade Motor Park when he was about boarding a vehicle with the corpse, which was wrapped in a polythene bag. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday assured Nigerians the Federal Government had no plan to increase fuel prices. “We are certainly not expecting to increase oil (fuel) prices at all; the government has absolutely no intention of increasing fuel prices and that’s it,” he told journalists after an on-the-stop assessment of the fuel situation in parts of Lagos.   A transcript of his interview with journalist was made available by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande.
