More than 26 people were burnt to death in an accident that occurred at Lagos-Ibadan Expressway involving two commercial buses.  An Eyewitnesses said the fatal accident occurred around 6:30am with both buses bursting into flames on impact. The two 18-seater commercial buses involved had a head on collision while trying to overtake from their lanes at point a point where the road construction company handling ongoing construction on the road had diverted traffic. Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corp, who were the first responders at the scene led by the Oluyole Unit Commander, Mrs Titilayo Olayiwola, confirmed the crash and disclosed that the corpses have been moved to Adeoyo Hospital, while the survivors were taken to University College Hospital and Ibadan Central Hospital. President of the Christian Assosciation of Nigeria CAN, Reverend Samson Ayokunle, has said that until peace returns to Southern Kaduna, Nigeria as a nation will not know peace. Over 500 people have been killed in the crisis that started some years ago. Speaking when he paid a visit to the people of Kafanchan in Southern Kaduna on Thursday, Ayokunle called on the Federal government to immediately find a way to resolve the crisis rocking the region as well as in other parts of the country. “Until the people of Southern Kaduna have their peace, Nigeria will not have peace. It is the duty of the government to ensure that area and other parts of the country struggling with herdsman are brought under control. So, peace in Southern Kaduna is a task that must be accomplished. They must not be deceived. Those troubling Southern Kaduna must be brought to book and prosecuted. Their gun must be taken away and their sources of weapon prosecuted,” he said.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that ISTL had reduced the production and supply of the 32-page passports since last year following the foreign exchange crisis in the country which had reportedly increased the production cost of the booklets. This is as investigation by the House of Representatives Committee on Interior revealed that the Federal Government made arrangements for the production of just 10 million passport booklets for the country in the past 10 years. It was also discovered that the e-passport project had gulped over N25bn in the past 10 years. The first contract awarded to ISTL, a Malaysian firm, on March 1, 2007, was for the production of three million passports and embedded substrates under a public-private-partnership agreement at the cost of $138.4m. The production agreement between ISTL and the Ministry of Interior for the e-passport project was due to expire on May 7, 2017 (tomorrow). Colombian Sandra Milena Almeida swallowed the rolls of $100 notes in a 'fit of rage', according to the surgeons who removed the cash. The woman had reportedly hidden the cash, which was saved up for a holiday, in the couple's home.  But, after discovering her partner's infidelity she was going to use it to leave him and gulped down the rolled-up notes whole in a bid to hide them.  The next day Ms Almeida, from Piedecuesta, northeastern Colombia, was rushed to hospital with severe abdominal pains. She did not tell doctors about the money, but x-rays showed dozens of 3cm-long objects in her stomach and intestine. Doctors at the Santander University Hospital in Bucaramanga managed to save $5,700 after cleaning and drying out the notes in the operating theatre. 

A Los Angeles judge granted the 41-year-old singer's request on Thursday with a five-year restraining order that expires at midnight on May 3, 2022. The Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja arraigned a 16-year-old girl on Thursday for allegedly luring her friend to a hotel to be gang-raped.  The accused, who resides in Alagbado area of Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy. The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed on March 26, 2017 at Mega Funds Hotel, Alagbado.  Ogu, according to NAN, said the accused lured her friend to meet a boy at the hotel where she was allegedly gang-raped by four men now at large. The offence contravened Section 410 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. Akanni adjourned the case until May 17 for mention.
