The breakdown of the budget which was laid before both the Senate and House of Representatives, shows that the sum of N530,421,368,624 is for statutory transfer while N2,203,835,365,699 is for debt service. The President says the nation’s economy is steadily improving, urging Nigerians to remain optimistic as the future of the country is bright.  At a State dinner held on Monday in his honour by the Government of Jigawa State during his two-day working visit, President Buhari called on Nigerians to continue supporting his administration’s well thought-out economic policies. Nobel Literature laureate, Wole Soyinka, has said that for the fight against corruption in Nigeria to succeed, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has to beam its searchlight on some country’s former leaders. He said “until we make some of our past leaders walk through those doors of the EFCC new office, the fight against corruption would not have the needed traction.” Soyinka spoke on Monday at the opening of a meeting of heads of anticorruption agencies from Commonwealth Africa, in Abuja, the Nigerian capital Soyinka said all the money stolen by former Head of State Sani Abacha should be fully recovered. Idowu Olugbenga Temetan aka David Cole, 30, and Adeltilewa Olamigoke Afolabi Ikuejuyone aka Kuffour Duval, 36, previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and three counts of wire fraud. Temetan also admitted to one count of passport forgery. U.S. District Judge Sim Lake handed Temetan a 51-month sentence, while Ikuejuyone received a 45-month sentence yesterday. Both defendants were also held jointly and severally liable to pay $187,422.60 in restitution. As both are not U.S. citizens, each are expected to face deportation proceedings following their sentences. At Ikuejuyone’s sentencing, the court heard testimony from a relative of one of the victims who testified about the emotional and financial toll the defendant’s criminal actions had taken on their family. Lara Mason, 32 year old baker, of Brownhills, West Midlands, spent six weeks hand-crafting the impressive sponge creation ahead of the couple's Royal wedding this weekend. The cake - which would feed over 500 people - was baked using 300 eggs, 15kg of flour, 15kg of butter and 15 kg of sugar. Over 10kg of buttercream was then used to sandwich the layers together, wrapped in roughly 50kg of fondant icing. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama said this when he received the Security Adviser to the President of Germany, Dr Jan Hecker, and his team in Abuja. The new proposal, according to Onyeama, is predicated on perceived failures and slow pace of the current system of repatriation. This, he said, involved both the participation of Nigerian embassies and consulate and the German immigration office. “They don’t have enough faith and confidence in the process that we have at the moment for the repatriation process. ”Some of the delays they believed are with the mission and consulate in Germany. ”They want to propose a completely new process of repatriation, known as Return and Re-admission,” he said. Onyeama said that in the last two years only about 200 Nigerians had returned to the country out of about 30,000. ”Germans were not happy that the system we have in place at the moment is certainly not working to their satisfaction,” he said.   Two Nigerian students — Ilonze Elvis and Daniel Oluyemi — who battered a fellow student, Prince Nnaji, with a shisha pipe in an argument over who had the richest father, have been spared jail in the UK.  Ilonze, 20, attacked Nnaji, who is said to be his childhood friend, in the flat they shared in Brighton, East Sussex, reported Daily Mail. During the fight, Nnaji reportedly tried to escape from the flat, but Ilonze, along with his friend, Daniel Oluyemi, reportedly chased after him and beat him with a wine bottle on April 7 last year around 10 p.m. Inside the flat, Nnaji’s girlfriend, Louanna Rayawa, who tried to stop the attack, was pushed to the ground by Ilonze.  The pair of Daniel and Oluyemi also assaulted law student, Chiedozie Dibiagwu, 23, who was sitting on a chair nearby and witnessed Nnaji being assaulted. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Command, Kaduna State, has confirmed that four persons died after they were accidentally crushed by a truck near the Kwangila flyover in Zaria, on Sunday night. Mr Idris Yahaya, FRSC Head of Public Enlightenment and Assistant Unit Commander in the state, confirmed the accident in Zaria on Monday. Yahaya said four others were injured during the accident, describing it as `pathetic’. He said the accident occurred after the truck lost control while on high speed.“The victims are made up of three men and a woman.“The remains of those killed were taken to the mortuary at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Zaria, while the survivors are responding to treatment at the same hospital,” Yahaya said. Omo-Agege who fielded questions from reporters at the National Secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja on Monday, boasted that fresh moves by the Bukola Saraki-led Senate to sustain the 90 days suspension clamped on him would fail. Referring to the recent judgment by an Abuja Federal High Court presided over by justice Nnamdi Dimgba which nullified his suspension, he insisted that the declaratory order took effect from last Thursday when the decision was taken.
