Four suspects who had escaped their dragnet on Manyanja Road at 11pm were in Lower Chokaa, on Kangundo Road, he said. The officer had been called by a greengrocer, who informed him that four people, including a woman, were robbing residents. AMBUSH  Some officers did not see the message and so he called members of his company, one by one. They then called their driver to pick them up and asked for reinforcement from uniformed colleagues on night patrol. The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Jummai Alhassan said tests conducted on the 82 by Chibok girls that were freed  on Saturday  show that some of them need to undergo surgery The minister disclosed this at a press conference in Abuja, on Thursday, May 11. The 82 girls, who are part of the 276 girls abducted by Boko Haram from Government Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State in 2014, were released five days ago after three years in captivity. "The 82 Chibok girls are currently undergoing medical screening in Abuja. Some of them need surgery… this should be completed in two to three weeks." Mrs Alhassan said. The minister denied reports that the Federal Government has refused to grant parents of the girls and the 21 others released in October 2016 by Boko Haram access them. She said pictures of the 82 girls released  on Saturday  had been sent to their parents for identification, while parents of those released earlier had full access to

Singer, Eniola Akinbo aka Niyola, is speaking out more about domestic violence after the death of her friend, 22-year-old Karabo Mokoena, who was murdered and burnt to death by her abusive ex-boyfriend, Sandile Mantsoe, in South Africa. Moses Mwangi, living in Dallas,TX , was  on Sunday  arrested and charged with manslaughter and intoxication. Police said  on Tuesday  said he was behind the wheel of a vehicle that crashed into and killed a young couple near the Dallas North Tollway. Mr. Mwangi was driving drunk when he crashed into another car and killed Promise Hamilton 23, and Luis Solano 26, police said. The 26-year-old was going Eastbound on Frankford Road early  Sunday  when he hit a car carrying the pair. The deceased were said to have exited the Tollway and were about to pick up her relatives on the way to the airport so she could fly to France to resume at her place of work. Although, Mr. Mwangi was rushed to Medical City Plano where he was initially in critical condition and had since been discharged and handed over to the police. According to Fox News, Mr. Mwangi’s bond is set at ($500,000) and ($250,000) for each of the two counts of intoxication and manslaughter.

Two Nigerians in Canada have been arrested by the Canadian police while two others were declared wanted for identity theft and fraud amounting to over $10 million. Police claim the four suspects used the funds they got from identity theft to fund a lavish lifestyle that included $10,000 crocodile skin shoes and $150,000 watches. Canadian authorities made this known in a statement released  on Tuesday . The identities of the suspects were disclosed to be: Adedayo Ogundana, 45, also known as Oladipupo Ogund; Adekunle Johnson Omitiran, 37; Duro Akintola, 44, of Toronto, who is also known as Michie Noah; and Emmanuel Salako, 47, who is also known as Gee Salaq. Toronto police arrested Ogundana and Omitiran during an investigation which began in 2016. They executed a search on April 24 at a Yorkville condominium believed to be under the control of Adekunle, there they found evidence. Speaking through his lawyer‚ Mantsoe said he had no objection to the presence of the media‚ adding that his picture was already circulating on social media. "You are going to burn in hell‚" one woman from the court gallery shouted as he was led back to the holding cells of the court during a short adjournment. Mantsoe appeared unfazed as he headed out. Mokoena's family seemed emotional when they saw him appear from the cells. A woman dressed in black shook her head as her eyes filled with tears. Mantsoe is alleged to have killed and burnt Mokoena two weeks ago. Mokoena's family had reported her missing and a search for her had intensified‚ with her pictures circulating on social media.

The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) was shut down Thursday afternoon as students from the University of Benin (UNIBEN) blocked entrance to the hospital. The students were protesting the death of a student who was said to have died shortly after being brought to the hospital. “When he was brought in after complaining of fever, we took him to the Accident and Emergency Department around 8pm last night and met some doctors at work.  “They told us that they could barely help because they did not have Adrenaline and intravenous. We were given prescriptions to go and get the medications.‎  “We searched for the drugs but because it was night we could not get them on time. By the time we could get the recommended materials, we were informed he had passed on.  “It is worrying that his death which was very avoidable was caused by issues as embarassing as a hospital like UBTH not having syringes and needles.  “It has become a common practice in the UBTH for doctors to dema

The acting president stated this yesterday at the palace of the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumin Usman.   Osinbajo who was in Katsina, President Buhari’s home state, to inaugurate the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) clinic. The Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, quoted Osinbajo as saying that he felt very much at home in Katsina. Osinbajo’s spokesman, in messages posted on his Twitter handle @akandeoj, quoted the acting president saying that: “I feel very much at home in Katsina, more so because this is the state of the president, who has taken me as a brother.  “In fact, the president has taken me as a son in the way he treats me.” According to the acting president, President Muhammadu Buhari believes in the unity of the country. He said the amount of responsibilities President Buhari had given to him showed that he (Buhari) ‘seriously’ believed that they could both work together as brothers.

Despite the controversy surrounding their union, the children of former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, and Kessington Adebutu, popularly known as Baba Ijebu, had their traditional marriage on Thursday. Mrs.Taiwo Obasanjo, wife of the ex-president, had said the wedding will lead to disaster and strange deaths in the country. She had filed a suit at an Ikeja high court, seeking to stop the wedding but Lateefat Okunnu, the presiding judge, dismissed the suit on the grounds that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear it because Olujonwo, 33, is an adult. The traditional marriage, which held at the Balmoral Hall of Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos, was attended by the big names in politicians, business moguls, as well as traditional rulers. Tolulope and Olujonwo had their introduction ceremony in December, at the Ikoyi, Lagos home of Adebutu. The suspected cultists engaged the police in a gun duel,  PUNCH reports. Andrew Enwerem, the police public relations officer in the state, was quoted as saying that the suspects were apprehended during initiation at Orji Comprehensive Secondary School in Owerri north local government area of the state. The alleged cultists were: Okafor Anyanwu, Chimezie Nwanezi, Umeh Chimezie, Obiji Obumneke, Ubani Lawrence, Okpara Chimezie, Amouha Ikenna, Njoku Chidi , Ajaegbu Gabriel Golden, Alaforo Walter, Akpasuo Chimereijem, Okpara Jude Chijike, Ukachi Samuel, Christus Okerie, and Gaboh Lucky. Enwerem said the state commissioner of police, Chris Ezike, coordinated the operation that led to their arrest. He said the CP had ordered that the suspected cult members should be charged to court at the end of the investigations. According to Enwerem, a policeman was shot during the operation.
