242.4B Naira, Needed For The 2019 General Elections- Buhari

This was disclosed in a letter to the Senate on Tuesday which was read on the floor during plenary. According to report ,Buhari, implementing a budget of N9.12 trillion for 2018 would be extremely challenging and therefore did not consider it expedient to increase the 2018 budget to accommodate the funds needed for the 2019 General Elections. The president asked the National Assembly to transfer the funds appropriated for the new projects which were inserted in the 2018 budget to cover the sum of N228.8 billion for the elections. Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi says he will pay all salary arrears of civil servants cleared and the pension arrears of retirees before the end of 2017. Bello also said that he would commence prompt payment of salaries of workers in the state public service from January 2018. He made the promise on Saturday at the commemoration of the 110th birthday of the Odeyani-Anebira, Alhaji Audu Otonoku and his eight years on the throne as the Otonoku in Lokoja. “As from January next year, we shall be paying all our cleared civil servants salaries as and when due."  “I want to appreciate God that good days are coming to the people of Kogi,” he said.

Retired Air Force Officer And His driver Reportedly Dead

A retired Air Vice Marshal (AVM) and his driver have recovered dead after their Ford Explorer Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) plunged into the lagoon Saturday night. A motorist had told The Nation that: “There was a vehicle inside the lagoon. People are trapped in it. The vehicle was heading into Lagos Island. Fishermen and LASEMA are trying to safe the occupants of the vehicle now. May God help them. The deceased were said to be driving inward Lagos Island, when they colluded with another vehicle on the bridge. As a result of the accident, the SUV, it was gathered, tumbled several times before skidding into the lagoon. It was learnt that officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and local fishermen recovered the bodies from the submerged vehicle around 2:30am. Police Breaks Eko Electricity Worker’s Leg For Disconnecting Ex-IG’s Flow Of Electricity

The mobile policeman, Attah Aninoko, on Thursday dragged down Ogundele from an electric pole opposite the house and beat him up for disconnecting power to the house of the former IG.  Ogundele’s leg was allegedly broken by the sergeant, who was reported to have boasted that “nothing will happen.” The matter was said to have been reported to the police at the Ikoyi division and the sergeant was arrested. The Head of Corporate Communications Department, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), Mr. Godwin Idemudia, who confirmed the incident, said the sergeant had been detained. He explained that the house of the former IG owed a bill of N154,693.85, adding that the name on the bill was one Yusuf. Idemudia said because the policeman was armed, other officials of the electricity distribution company were helpless and could only watch their colleague being brutalised.   Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed this development saying, 'the two countries agreed to expand cooperation in exchange of scholars, exchange of students and exchange/sharing of ideas, skills and education technology and to improve scholarships for Nigerians to study in Turkey'. : Shehu also revealed that Nigeria and Turkey agreed to resolve the issues relating to Nigerian students in Turkish universities that were facing exclusion due to visa challenges. : He said: “Nigeria and Turkey have equally agreed to strengthen and promote investments in health institutions and this, as promised by the President will proceed quickly. The toxicology tests detected alcohol (Bacardi 151, 75.5% Alcohol) and topiramate, a medication for epilepsy and/or migraines in a man’s system, in Tagbo Umeike.’ Tagbo’s blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) was at 0.112, higher than the 0.08 legal limit for normal human being state, the coroner’s office stated. The wife of the president, Aisha Buhari, said on Monday that her husband’s ill health caused instability in Nigeria. She expressed the view at the stakeholders meeting on Reproductive, Maternal, New Born, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH and N) in Abuja. The event was also used to inaugurate the Governors Wives Advocacy Group (GWAG) on reproductive health in the country. President Muhammadu Buhari was in London for treatment of an undisclosed illness and spent over 100 days there. Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has dedicated his team’s World Cup qualification to terminally-ill first choice goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme.  The 31-year-old was in between the goal post for Nigeria in the first two games of the World Cup qualifying campaign, but his participation however ended when he was diagonised with Leukemia in July. Rohr revealed the team promised Ikeme, who is undergoing Chemotherapy, a win and the world cup ticket in a telephone chat before the game in Uyo on Saturday.  In his words, “from day one, our goalkeeper, Ikeme Carl kept us in this race to qualify for Russia. In Ndola, he made great saves to help us come through with a win. He spoke with the captain and the whole team and we promised him we’ll win and qualify. So this win is for Ikeme”. The Police Command in Ebonyi had confirmed that Chinedu Linus, a student of Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki, was killed by gunmen on Friday. .  The Spokesperson of the command, ASP Loveth Odah, said that the gunmen robbed Linus and subsequently killed him. “I urge students not to confront robbers or any person bearing arms whenever they are attacked because such a person was no longer normal. .  It is only a living person that makes use of valuables as no amount of valuables in ones’ possession can equate to life,” she said. The robbers stormed the Lucky City Hostel of the deceased at Ishieke campus of the University at about 1:30 a.m. on Friday during a heavy downpour.  They used a ladder to gain entry into the fenced hostel located in a secluded area. 5 killed as fuel tanker explodes along Abuja-Kaduna expressway....

No fewer than five people died yesterday after a fuel tanker exploded at Tafa village along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, told journalists in Kaduna that the tanker laden with kerosene was trying to avoid dangerous potholes on the road when it suddenly fell by the roadside and burst into flames. “Two of the deceased died after inhaling fumes from the flames and the other three were burnt by the fire,” he said. According to him, many others who sustained severe burns have been hospitalised while several vehicles parked by the roadside were burnt. Thousands of Abuja-Kaduna bound passengers were left stranded following the incident. A spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), confirmed the incident to newsmen. The official, however, said he could not ascertain if lives were lost in the incident. Judge Orders Arrest Of 'Police Officer' Witness In Notorious Fraudster Seun Egbegbe’s Fraud Case

The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the arrest of a police officer, Bello Abubakar, listed as the first prosecution witness in the case of a Nigerian film maker, Olajide Kazeem, better known as Seun Egbegbe, who was charged with serial frauds involving N39, 098,100, $90,000 and £12,550.  The trial judge in the case, Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, said on Thursday that Abubakar must be produced before her on October 11 to continue his testimony.  The judge had earlier issued a bench warrant against Abubakar, ordering that he must be in court on Thursday.  The police officer, however, failed to appear, to the judge’s displeasure.  The police prosecutor, Innocent Anyigor, told the judge that Abubakar had gone out of jurisdiction, adding that all his efforts to bring him to court on Thursday failed.  Justice Oguntoyinbo berated the police prosecutor for the poor handling of the case, which had been filed before her since February. The three-year-old marriage between a popular radio presenter, Omotoke Makinwa and her estranged husband, Maje Ayida has been dissolved..  An Igbosere High Court in Lagos on Thursday dissolved the union, citing husband’s adulterous lifestyle. She had on March 9, 2016, asked the court to dissolve the marriage on the grounds that the husband committed adultery.  Justice Morenike Obadina, while delivering judgment held that Ayida filed an answer to the petition but did not give oral evidence in support of it.  She said the position of the law was settled as pleadings did not amount to evidence. “Pleadings on which no evidence was led are deemed abandoned. Therefore, Ayida’s evidence is deemed abandoned.  The effect being that the petitioner’s evidence is unchallenged and uncontroverted,’’ she ruled.
