Super Eagles coach dedicates World Cup qualification to ex-keeper, Carl Ikeme who is battling Leukemia :



Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has dedicated his team’s World Cup qualification to terminally-ill first choice goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme. 

The 31-year-old was in between the goal post for Nigeria in the first two games of the World Cup qualifying campaign, but his participation however ended when he was diagonised with Leukemia in July.

Rohr revealed the team promised Ikeme, who is undergoing Chemotherapy, a win and the world cup ticket in a telephone chat before the game in Uyo on Saturday. 


In his words, “from day one, our goalkeeper, Ikeme Carl kept us in this race to qualify for Russia. In Ndola, he made great saves to help us come through with a win. He spoke with the captain and the whole team and we promised him we’ll win and qualify. So this win is for Ikeme”. Nigeria qualified for the 2018 World Cup on Saturday, after an Alex Iwobi 73rd minute goal against Zambia.
