Journalists killed while covering a protest

Today, 28-year old Indian journalist Shantanu Bhowmick was killed in the North-Eastern Indian state of Tripura while covering a protest. 

According to the state’s police chief AK Shukla, the reporter from Dinraat news channel, was attacked and abducted late Wednesday while he was at protests held by the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura. Bhowmick was later found with multiple stab wounds and died by the time he reached the hospital. So far, Four members of the IPFT, an organisation representing tribal people, have been detained for questioning. 

This is the second incident of a journalist being killed in India within a month. Senior journalist and activist, Gauri Lankesh, was gunned down outside her home in Bangalore on September 5, 2017 leading to widespread protests and concern over the security of journalists in the country.
