Single mother admits she skip meals for a WEEK to buy her sons designer trainers.
A struggling single mother has revealed how she'll go without food for up to a week in order to afford designer trainers for her twin boys, because she's determined to make them the 'popular kids'.
Part-time care assistant Sarah, 26, lives with her eight-year-old sons Jayden and Jacob in Toxteth, in Liverpool, says she's determined to give her boys everything she never had, even if it means going without.
Sarah reveals on the Channel 4 show Single Mums Club that 'I'll starve myself for a week to buy them a pair of Jordans [Air Jordan trainers]... so everyone knows they're not "meffs"' - Liverpudlian slang for 'tramps'.
The student, who is working towards a degree in events management, adds of her approach to saving: 'I'm skinnier, so it's win-win.'
Allowing Channel 4 cameras access to her life, she shares a bold and extremely honest snapshot as part of the documentary Single Mums Club, which follows mothers raising their children alone in Liverpool.
'I will do everything I can to make them the popular kids. Because I know the popular kids have the easier school run,' Sarah says on the show.
'I always feel there's that stereotype because I’m a single mum. So I will push my very, very hardest so they aren't meffs.
Sarah juggles her parenting duties with her work for her degree and her part-time job, and dreams of becoming rich and successful.
She describes how her priorities are vastly different to those of her fellow students.
'It's like a small fraction of my life,' she says.
'My whole life is dedicated to the twins, then the next thing from that is paying bills, which is my job, then the third thing is what I want to do in the future and my dreams and goals.'
But Sarah does put some money towards treating herself, pointing out paying the bills has to be crammed in alongside 'nails, hair jobs, tattoos, clothes shopping for me... it’s a tight squeeze'.
