Judge Who Allegedly Took Bribe From Senator Dino Melaye Allegedly Confesses
Ikpeme reportedly confessed so as to seek 'soft landing from the government. According to a report by Sahara Reporters, Justice Ikpeme reached out to an aide of the Nigerian President to confess so as to save her career.
Ikpeme allegedly confirmed that the voices in the leaked tape were hers and Melaye and that Melaye allegedly bribed her twice to give judgement in his favour.
The judge has however asked the government to investigate the Court of Appeal for insisting she handled Melaye case twice.
Ikpeme has reportedly also provided her MTN phone number which she allegedly used to receive Melaye's call about phone conversation.
Recall that a leaked audio tape believed to be a telephone conversation between Justice Ikpeme and Senator Melaye. In the tape, the female voice could be heard telling the male voice that whatever would be given to her should be presented in US dollars. Melaye has since denied the allegation by Sahara Reporters that he bribed the tribunal judge.
Meanwhile, the Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC), which is a coalition of over 150 anti-corruption organization, has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to commence investigation and prosecution of the lawmaker representing Kogi West, Senator Dino Melaye, for alleged bribe of an Election Petition judge, Justice Akoh Ikpeme in 2015.
The CSNAC in a petition signed by its chairman, Mr. Olanrewaju Suraju, the coalition urged the anti-graft commission to urgently commence a high-powered investigation by a team of forensic experts and investigators into these allegations to assuage the growing diffidence of the citizens in the fight against corruption.
