Nigeria Lawmaker Seeks International Cooperation To End Herdsmen Attacks

A lawmaker, Rep. Rimamnde Shawulu (Taraba-PDP), has called for increased international cooperation in Nigeria’s bid to stop kidnapping and attacks by herdsmen. Shawulu, who is the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Army, said in Abuja on Thursday that the attacks were endanger the lives and property of Nigerians.
“The sorry thing about the situation is that there are international dimensions to the kidnapping and to the herdsmen problems that we have across the country and we are hoping that there will be international cooperation.
“What we have done from our own angle in the national assembly is to consider and increase where appropriate the money that is needed for the security agencies.’’

The lawmaker added that the attacks and kidnapping remained major threats to the Nigerian economy.
According to him, government at all levels have a role to play in curbing the activities of the herders.
