Senator Dino Melaye Says Buhari's Govt Is For Criminals
The most controversial Senator has described the current administration as that of criminocracy which he defined as a government of the criminals, by the criminals and for the criminals.
Vanguard reports that the Kogi senator made this comment at the 2017 Nigeria Democracy Day Lecture organized by the Save Democracy Group Africa (SDG-Africa) in Abuja. Melaye said the appointment of inexperienced people into government was largely responsible for the bad records in the first two years of Buhari’s administration.
He said: "Democracy is defined as a government of the people, by the people and for the people but what we had in the time of Jonathan was greedocracy, which is the government of the greedy, by the greedy and for the greedy.
Today, we have criminocracy-a government of the criminals, by the criminals and for the criminals. Wrong appointment led to the emergence of the former (suspended) Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF who became a grass cutter.
“When you appoint a man who has no experience in civil administration as SGF, he is bound to misbehave.To sustain the nation’s democracy, Melaye urged Nigerians to note that a legitimate clash of interest exists between the legislature and the executive arm and as such, the National Assembly should be allowed the liberty to carry on with its statutory duty without hindrance.
“There is no where an auditor and the man who runs an organization are friends. There’s something wrong when the two are seen taking tea together.
“We must discuss and agree to be Nigerians. We have not discussed and we have not agreed. “Generators should only been used at emergency centres like hospitals and mortuaries so that when there is no light in Karmo (a suburb of Abuja), there will be no light also at the villa.”
The senator called for the removal of immunity clause from the constitution. He also urged the government to eradicate poverty in other to put a stop to agitation for secession.
Meanwhile, Melaye claimed that an audio tape published by Sahara Reporter in which he was allegedly recorded agreeing to give out a bribe in US dollars to a tribunal judge, was doctored In the said conversation, the female voice is overheard asking the male to give her a bribe in US dollars.
She allegedly also asks Melaye to assist a person Dino referred to as her "daughter" secure a job at the Cross Rivers State Ministry of Health.
However, the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district in a tweet on Tuesday, May 30, alleged that Sahara Reporters and one Awada Kerikeri used voice over to malign him.
